Warmth Stems from the Craftsman’s Dedication
Even before approaching Artist La Pie, the melodious notes of a piano can be heard drifting through the air, as if time itself flows gently here. This 125-year-old building, once a salon for Russian vocalists, was known a century ago as the “Gardenia Club.” Today, it still retains its rich historical charm and artistic warmth.
Featured Guests: Philippe & Melvin

“Art must be touched, must carry warmth—only then does it truly live.”
The host, Philippe, initially studied contemporary photography in New York during his early years. However, fueled by an unwavering passion for art, a serendipitous encounter in Paris led him to meet the director of the École des Beaux-Arts. He then apprenticed under him for seven years, mastering the art of restoration, before establishing his own studio in Montmartre. Ultimately, driven by a deeper calling, he returned to China to fulfill his vision—giving birth to Artist La Pie, a space brimming with artistic ambiance.
His conversation partner is the Chairman of iLuvVivid Artisan Paint, a visionary with over 25 years of extensive experience in architectural design, theme parks, and related industries. In both life and work, he is deeply passionate about architecture, art, and photography.
Today, these two kindred spirits have the privilege of crossing paths, sharing their philosophies on art.

Philippe:
“Look at these ironworks—each piece is hand-forged in Florence. Few young craftsmen are willing to take up such work nowadays.”
Philippe spoke while running his fingers over the artisanal iron handle at the entrance. The green facade, when viewed from afar, resembled a vividly colored Southern French village.
“The forging process requires working in 50-60°C heat—most can’t endure such grueling conditions. But it’s precisely this dedication that breathes life into every piece. Each door handle is unique, a living testament to centuries of craftsmanship.”

Melvin:
Melvin listened intently to the host’s introduction while carefully examining the building’s structural details and color palette. Running his fingers across the textured wall surface, he remarked:
“The nuances of art never fail to inspire us. Just like our artisan paints – each texture and finish is handcrafted to be truly unique. This human touch creates warmth that machines can never replicate. Only the human hand can breathe soul into a creation.”

Philippe:
As Philippe guided the tour, he gestured toward the historic-inspired tiles at the entrance: “These entryway tiles required sixteen artisans working for a month and a half to complete. Now, when you step across them into this space, you’re literally walking into Europe from five centuries ago.”

Philippe:
“One of Artist La Pie’s most distinctive features is the magnificent vintage piano that greets visitors upon entry. This space has become a gathering place for music lovers from around the world, who often come to perform and share their passion, using music as their universal language.”
“This 1950 Takata Steinway piano is entirely handcrafted. Instruments made by hand carry warmth and emotion—every single note resonates with the artisan’s devotion.”

At Artist La Pie, the warmth of handcrafted artistry permeates not only every detail of the space, but also extends to the freshly baked French pastries and breads prepared daily. All confections here are meticulously handmade by Michelin-starred chefs, adhering to authentic French techniques. The signature Wellington Steak Bread, with its crisp exterior and tender, multi-layered interior, has become a particular favorite among patrons.
What makes the experience even more exceptional is that all dishes are served on genuine silver platters. The mellow luster of the silverware harmonizes with the aroma of gourmet creations, offering every guest a truly distinctive dining experience.

“True art must pass through human hands to acquire vitality and warmth—it is this very dedication that allows creations to transcend time while remaining vibrantly alive.”

Philippe:
“These window adornments are made of Belle Époque-era natural crystal—the same material used in European palace chandeliers 200 years ago. Observe this play of light: from 7 to 9 AM, the entire space becomes bathed in rainbow hues. The refracted light creates prismatic colors, with every angle meticulously calculated to breathe life into the room. This is no accident, but rather precision-engineered luminosity.”
Gesturing to an angelic portrait on the wall, he added:
“This is my three-month-old daughter, painted by my own hand. What makes art most moving is its capacity to carry emotion and transmit warmth.”
Melvin:
“This aligns perfectly with our philosophy. Every color carries its own warmth, every texture tells its own story. When we formulate our hues, we meticulously avoid adding black pigment—this preserves each color’s purest, most vibrant essence. Just as an artist mixing paints would never use pure black, but instead blend colors by hand to achieve the perfect tone.”

The two ascended the spiral staircase to the second floor – a meticulous 1:1 reproduction of the staircase from Leonardo da Vinci’s residence, paying homage to the master in a profound tribute of artistic admiration and respect between creators.
As they climbed, the space seemed to transport them across time. Above the semicircular landing hung a dazzling Tiffany crystal chandelier, its prismatic light casting kaleidoscopic patterns that danced across the walls like living brushstrokes.

Philippe:
“These furnishings and decor were all dismantled from European castles and transported here. Take this 300-year-old Rococo chair-table set, this child’s prayer kneeler, or this scaled-down Venus sculpture replica from the Louvre—each piece has been tempered by time, carrying the weight of history within it.”
“Look closely: the carved satyr on this armrest, the harp motif on that master chair’s backrest, the fluid drapery of the sculpture… True appreciation requires stillness. I’m not collecting antiques—I’m collecting stories.”
Philippe introduced each piece with the tender familiarity of a parent speaking about their children, every artifact pulsing with its own narrative legacy.
Melvin:
“These textures and the patina of age are the soul of this space. They’re not mere decorations—they’re a conversation across centuries.”

“Being here is such a delight—it’s genuinely moving. When I see these furnishings, especially this table, it immediately reminds me of my grandmother’s home, filled with memories of old Shanghai.”— Ms. Hu

“I first saw this place online—it had such a vintage vibe that I came specifically to practice photography. Could you help me take a photo through the crystal glass?” — Ms. Wu

Melvin:
“Rarely would anyone display such precious objects for public use like this, would they?”
Philippe:
“People often ask me why I place these precious antiques in a café rather than a museum. But the truth is, art needs to be used, needs to carry warmth—only then does it truly come alive.”
“Look at these century-old chairs and tables—guests use them daily. Yes, we replace a chair almost every week, but that’s precisely their purpose.”
He gestured to the hundred-year-old Steinway:
“Here, it’s not an exhibit but a playable instrument. Guests touch real art, experience life wrapped in beauty. This is art’s rightful state—not some aloof decoration, but a companion woven into daily existence.”

Melvin:
“Nothing brings greater comfort than being in a living space filled with warmth. Colors and textures hold the power to recreate cherished memories—whether it’s the pristine white of a snowscape, the nurturing green of a forest, the refined palette of Eastern tradition, or the elegant grace of European classicism. Every hue awakens emotional recollections.”
“True luxury isn’t about price—it’s about encountering beauty daily. When you return home to walls alive with texture, fingertips meeting warm surfaces, that sensation of being enveloped by art… this is authentic extravagance.”

“Like stepping into an Italian museum—except here, every gallery-space wears a different hue, and this time, you’re actually allowed to touch!” — Xiao Qi

“Art is love and devotion.”
As dusk approached, Philippe reflected: “I spent twenty years collecting these pieces—not to flaunt them, but to let more people feel the power of beauty. When I see guests moved by art, everything becomes worthwhile. This café isn’t just a business; it’s a sanctuary for art, a place where people encounter wonder.”
This is an artist’s purest intention. Like iLuvVivid’s philosophy—“With passion for Chinese heritage and mastery of European craftsmanship, we create spaces brimming with harmony and love, making every home vibrantly alive.” United by artistic devotion, we share one mission: to craft warm, tactile spaces where connections flourish and love circulates.
On this art-filled afternoon, their dialogue reminds us:
True art’s value lies not in price tags, but in its power to stir souls and kindle daily warmth.
When handcrafted care, intentional details, and lived experience intertwine—that’s when art truly breathes.

“To encounter and to cherish—art is nothing but love and devotion.”
