Growing up in bomb-scarred Singapore during World War II, Ng Joo Soon lost friends and relatives far too young. Instead of growing bitter, he made himself a promise: “Wherever life takes me, I’ll bring back beauty and comfort.” When peace finally returned, Mr. Ng launched DovePaint in 1980. The dove with an olive branch became his logo—and his mission. Every can he sold whispered the same idea: a home filled with warmth can mend hearts and pull families together. Starting with one small workshop and a handful of local builders, Mr. Ng obsessed over quality. Word spread, and soon Dove Paint, later DoveChem, was protecting walls across Southeast Asia and, eventually, China. Mr. Ng believed that happy homes build strong nations. He taught his team to treat every can of paint as a “vessel of possibility” and every room as a future sanctuary.
Expanding From South-East Asia To China
- 1970s–80s: Factories and terminals opened in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, fueling the region’s building boom.
- 1980: The first chemical terminal in China.
